Happy Valentine's Day

Every February 14th, across the United States and in other places around the world, candy, flowers and jewelry are exchanged, all in the name of St. Valentine.

But who is this mysterious saint, you ask?

Well, no one really knows... but legend has it, that he was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. At that time, Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, so he outlawed marriage for young men.

Valentine, realizing the injustice, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.  He is thus remembered in time for being an outlaw, and a romantic!

There are many, many other stories surrounding the history of Saint Valentine, but the most important thing to remember is that today, and everyday, you are loved.
